New iPad 3 announced!

Apple officially announced the iPad 3 on Wednesday 7th March. Instead of iPad 3 or iPad HD the new product’s name become simply iPad.

As it was expected the new iPad 3 received a 264 pixels-per-inch (2048 x 1536) 9.7″ retina display, 4G LTE connectivity and a A5X system-on-a-chip with quad-core graphics.

There are some improvements in color saturation that will make for more accurate and vivid images. It has a 5-megapixel camera – called iSight – which is capable to record videos in 1080p!

The iPad 3 is slightly heavier and slightly thicker than iPad 2 and despite a power-hungry display and 4G connectivity, battery life has been maintained at 10 hours on Wi-Fi, with 9 hours on 4G.

The new iPad will reach the stores on the 16th of March.

Apple might announce iPad 3 next week

According to CNB Apple is expected to announce the next generation iPad at an event next week in San Francisco. The company sent out an email invitation to the media Tuesday saying it will make an announcement March 7. The email stated “We have something you really need to see. And touch.”

I’m really excited about the new iPad 3 and as soon as I get one, I’ll share my every informations and thoughts about the product.

‘Till then here’s a video of the iPad 2 announcement.

What is Retina Display technology?

As I mentioned in my earlier post, iPad 3 release date has been delayed to 2012 due to a shortage of retina displays from its suppliers. But what is this retina display technology anyway? Let’s find it out!

Apple used this technology in iPhone 4 first. It’s an LCD that has a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch. Apple engineers were able to pack four times the number of pixels into the same screen as previous iPhones. The resulting pixel density makes text and graphics look smooth and continous at any size.

Retina display uses technology called IPS (in-plane switching) to achieve a wider viewing angle than on typical LCDs. Which means you can hold iPad almost any way you want and still get a brilliant picture. The technology offers four times the contrast ratio of previous models, so whites are brighter, blacks are darker, and everything is more beautiful. The glass of the display is chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic, the glass is ultradurable and more scratch resistant than ever. It also features an oil-resistant coating that helps keep the screen clean.

I can’t wait to touch that shiny screen finally… :)
